Ob man nach den Neuauflagen diverser Deep-Purple-Klassiker zum 25-jährigen Bandjubiläum fünf Jahre später schon wieder neue Remixes und Remasters braucht, sei mal dahingestellt, gerade jüngere Hörer, die an fette Digitalsounds gewöhnt sind, können anhand dieser Doppel-CD jedoch einen idealen Einstieg in die Welt der Herren Glover, Lord, Paice & Co. finden. Denn die erste der beiden Silberscheiben enthält fast ausschließlich Sound-technisch aufgepeppte Purple-Oldies, von denen man zumindest "Hush", "Wring That Neck", "Black Night", "Speed King", "Bloodsucker", "Child In Time", "Strange Kind Of Woman" und "Fireball" auf jeden Fall kennen sollte.
Der zweite Tonträger fährt dann noch einige weitere nachbearbeitete Seventies-Perlen der Marke "Highway Star", "Smoke On The Water" und "Woman From Tokyo" auf und folgt der langen Purple-Historie mit 80er-Krachern wie "Perfect Strangers" bis hin zu den noch fast brandneuen, bereits mit Steve Morse aufgenommenen Nummern "Ted The Mechanic" und "Any Fule Kno That". --Michael Rensen

Deep Purple in Rock is just a brilliant album; from those blues riffs in Speed King to the face-melting epic Child in Time, the record is just mindblowing. It was way ahead of its time too.

I love Purple unfortunately I 've only had the privilage of playing Hiway Star and Space Truckin live once at Richards with Phil X. I just got up there was no keyboard player and we rocked it! it was fun! That being said Purple have influenced the greatest Rock giants in the game today! EH!!
