That's because most of Skrillex's fans are people that only got into it from radio / other mainstream media. Same goes with stuff like Pendulum and Deadmau5. 90% of the profiles I visit, I have at least those 3 artists in common with them.
Not hating the producers because they are "mainstream", just saying. (but seriously, how mainstream even the most listened EDM producers are compared to most of RnB and pop)

Oh my god, last.fm runs like crap. Why is it that YouTube, a site where people watch and upload videos all the time and has way more users than last.fm seems to run smoothly all the time, while last.fm, a site with nothing but text and pictures, can't seem to go one day without messing up?
