Der Erwartungsdruck, der auf Katy Perry nach dem überragenden internationalen Erfolg ihres letzten Album One Of The Boys und ihrer Hitsingle I Kissed A Girl lastete, muss immens gewesen sein. Umso bewundernswerter ist es, welch große Schritte sie in künstlerischer Hinsicht mit Teenage Dream nach vorne gemacht hat. Um in aller Ruhe mit ihren Produzenten Max Martin, Tricky Stewart, Stargate, Dr. Luke und Greg Wells an den neuen Songs arbeiten zu können zog sie sich nach Santa Barbara zurück. Abseits des anhaltenden Trubels um ihre Person konzentrierte sich Katy Perry vollkommen ungestört auf die Musik. Herausgekommen ist erneut ein nahezu perfektes, ungemein facettenreiches Popalbum, auf dem sie wieder alle Register zieht, angefangen bei der mit Unterstützung von Rapper Snoop Dogg eingespielten Single California Gurls, über den absolut hitverdächtigen Titelsong "Tennage Dream" bis hin zur lässig groovenden Nummer "Peacock". Katy Perry hatte auch diesmal wieder ein äußerst glückliches Händchen bei der Auswahl ihrer Songs. Auf wenig inspirierendes Füllmaterial verzichtet sie komplett, einmal abgesehen von dem etwas überambitioniert wirkenden Track "E.T.". Stimmlich hat sie auf Teenage Dream in allen Bereichen deutlich zugelegt. Das wird vor allem bei Popsongs wie "The One That Got Away" oder der angenehm zurückhaltend arrangierten Nummer "Who Am I Living For?" deutlich, wo sie die entscheidenden Akzente setzt. Den besten Titel des Albums hat sich Perry aber mit der atmosphärischen Ballade "Not Like The Movies" bis zum Schluss aufgehoben. Ein würdiger Abschluss eines überzeugenden Albums. --Franz Stengel
