For anyone who is interested, EMI release on 23 April 2012 'Completely Cilla: 1963-1973' - a 5CD boxset of material by the British singer Cilla Black who began her career alongside The Beatles in Liverpool and covered several Dionne Warwick classics ("Alfie", "Anyone Who Had A Heart" etc). The set contains 139 recordings all produced by George Martin (the man behind The Beatles' hits) and comes with a bonus Region 0 / NTSC DVD of many previously unreleased BBC TV music performances.

I can't stand this accepted wisdom that 'Close To You' was never done justice until the Carpenter's awful awful version. The version on 'Make Way For Dionne Warwick' and his own 1968 arrangement are SO much more elegant and soulful. Of course, Burt was such a nice guy that he went along with the idea that what the song desperately needed all along was some close vocal harmonies - how inspired, for 1970!!!!

I, along with many many others from the 'baby boomer' generation of the 60s & 70s really enjoyed this very talented singer & her music as we were growing up. She made many fond radio listening memories & her legacy continues to this day. What a VOICE~! God bless~!

"Walk on By / I Say a Little Prayer / Do You Know the Way to San Jose" live medley is amazing. Too bad I don't know where I got the mp3 iIm listening (yeah I should but the gons I know)! I found some version on YouTube, it's good but not as good as the one I've been listening. But of course I have heard that version dozens of times.
