"Nobody knows you when you're down and out" is from his work with Derek and the Dominos, not him as a solo artist. Same with "Layla." Fun Fact: Their original name was "Eric and the Dynamos" but an announcer at a gig mispronounced it as "Derek and the Dominos" so it stuck after that.

Loved Cream-era Clapton. When I first heard songs like Strange Brew, White Room etc. it first made me realize that guitar can be like a vocalist in a band, carrying the melody. A shame that his playing never got any better from those days.
